At the 2015 International Space Development Conference in Toronto, Canada, the Chicago Society for Space Studies was presented with the National Space Society’s Award of Special Merit For Speaker Programs. The award was presented during the NSS Governors Dinner.
CSSS received the Award of Special Merit For Speaker Programs due to the efforts of members of the CSSS Speakers Bureau. Of partcular note were the many presentations of member Jim Kovac.
During 2014, CSSS and its speakers participated in a total of 35 public events for an estimated total audience of over 3000 people. Venues ranged from the Gateway to Space Conference in St. Louis to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Organizations for which our members gave presentations ranged from schools to libraries to astronomy clubs to science fiction conventions.
The Chicago Society for Space Studies has previously received two similar special merit awards, both in 1993. One was the National Space Society Special Merit Award for Spaceweek Events and the other was the National Space Society Special Merit Award for Outstanding Public Events – awarded for our sponsorship of a visit by Russian Cosmonaut Georgi Grechko to area schools and museums.
CSSS has also been the recipient of the NSS 2006 Award for Public Outreach and the NSS 2008 Public Outreach and Education Award
